You’ve assessed OPs child’s mouth? It may be... it may not be. I have a gap, and no lip tie. I wore braces for years... and the gap slowly came back. I’ve considered getting braces again as an adult, but it’s not that important to me right now.

Actually, DD had been to the dentist twice before her first birthday (got teeth early). Our densit has a light up dance floor, and gives tokens for “treats” from the coin operated vending machines they have. While she’s not usually impressed with what goes on during the exam, she does like to weave tall tales about her experiences there. We were so happy that she had been there before when she ended up with a dental injury after a fall.

This is what happened to both of my kids. DS also has had "shark teeth" that have fallen in to place on their own over time.

Not Op, but yes take your 1 year old to the dentist. The AAP recommends taking them by the time they are 1 or 6 months after the first tooth appears.

This. My DD had perfect little baby teeth with no gaps. When they fell out and the permanent teeth came in, they came in all crooked and crowded because there was no room for them. They look crazy now. We're starting on a long journey of orthodontic work, and she will need to have teeth pulled because there is no room.

Just get a flipper like the pageant parents do for their kids.

The lip tie isn't even the issue, is it? The dentist (I assume it was a pediatric dentist) said it was minor, no? So why are you so focused on any of this?

The OP mentioned a lip tie in her first post. It is possible that they were sent to a Dentist to get a referral regarding the lip tie.

We took DS to the dentist for the first time when he was 2. It was recommended by our Pediatrician. The visit was 10 minutes long and was meant to introduce him to the office, the tech let him handle some of her tools. He sat in the chair and they looked at his teeth for a minute or so. It was more to get him used to the office. The next visit was a bit longer until it was a regular visit with a cleaning and brushing by 3.

At least there will be plenty of room for the (bigger) permanent teeth to push through. That gap can be helpful b/c it provides space.

Wait, you took your 1 yr old to a dentist?

My son (now 13) always had a huge gap between his front teeth, even after the permanent front teeth came in. Now that his permanent molars are coming in, the gap is closing and will be minimal, if at all, and he won’t need braces because he had room for everything.

You’re really jumping the gun on worrying about orthodontia.

OP here - when I talked about fixing anything at this young age, I was talking about the lip tie to make sure that her permanent ones come into the structure they need. I didn’t want to find out years from now that we should have had the lip tie taken care of prior to the adult teeth growing in. I would never “fix” baby teeth.
