So it is an employee car allowance so he uses it for work and it is a trade association that prefers American made which gives me the impression that for use in connection with his work it's probably pretty much on target. Maybe OP has been keeping his employer a secret.

All pickup trucks are tacky, unless you're in construction.

I grew up in a farming area where people needed pickups. It seems silly to me for people around here who don't need them to have them, but I don't think it's "trashy" or "low class".

The only real problem I have, however, is when people get great big pickups and don't keep them in their lane. Whatever car you have, you should be able to control and drive responsibly. If you have to practice driving around in a parking lot, do so. If it's too big for you to keep in a single driving lane or parking space, get a smaller car. I don't mind cutting somebody slack if they have exceptional circumstances (driving a U-Haul or hauling something large home from a store), but somebody wanting to drive around town in a big car/truck, I don't consider an exceptional circumstance.

You sound like a pill. If it makes him happy who cares? Are you going to drive it?
