We used Flagstone for two kids and were happy there. It doesn't get mentioned often, it's relatively small, but that was part of why we liked it. They have several teachers that have been there for years and years. Why kids are much older now, and we still see teachers around the neighborhood (we live nearby) and they remember my kids. Best playground space around too.

Ridiculous price, I think more than $2500 for one 2-year-old when I was shopping around late last year. I think their prices get pushed up by corporate subsidies - like they are the go-to provider of in-house daycares for big companies. (Jealous)

I pulled my DD from Madison after a trial week. We liked it initially but their sick policy was too much for dual working couple - wanted testing for every sniffly nose. Don't know if it's changed since. I also felt their staff was a bit impersonal. Now that we're at a different daycare that is more warm and down to earth, I see what was missing there. Just a first impression though, maybe the other staff I didn't interact with are better.

What about Two Birds (not blue bird)? It's on the new side in Old Town - anyone have any good or bad experiences with them?

I'd also suggest getting on the Old Town Moms listserv, if you're not already, because sometimes daycares post unexpected openings there. Depending on your commute you might want to look into ones just outside of Old Town (e.g., Crystal City Children's Center).

If you haven't already seen this, here is a recent thread about severe violations at Blue Bird II:

The thread was deleted and in searching I can't find exactly what happened at Blue Bird II. Can anyone explain or point me in the right direction to find an explanation?

If you're commuting into DC, Bright Horizons Crystal City is a good option.

Does anyone have experience or know someone with experience at American Day School's infant rooms? We were offered a spot there starting soon for our two-month old. Thanks!

I've also read some negative reviews but they seem to have been written by disgruntled staff.

The amputation of the child's finger (and keeping kids in a closet) was noted in an investigative report by an investigator (i.e., not a disgruntled employee)
