Subject: wall hooks to hold relatively heavy items (full backpacks). Stud needed or drywall is OK?
The command hooks hold a lot. Just FYI, I have never had good luck with removing them when we moved and not having them take a good size chunk of paint with them. It wasn't about how much weight they held that determined if they took paint, it was about how long they had been sticking to the wall.
They are very easy to install, they just don't come off as advertised if they have been there for a year or more.

May not be the aesthetic you're looking for - we put them on the inside of our coat closet door - but you avoid the drywall issues.

I put Command hooks on the back of a door to hold jackets, and I was shocked that it didn't fall off when my dc put his 40 pound school backpack on it. They hold an incredible amount of weight.

We painted a piece of wood. Screwed that into studs - and attached hooks to the wood.
We previously had molly bolts in drywall and eventually it failed.

We use the same hooks in the same location. They really do hold up.

The best, but not easiest, solution is to cut into the drywall and install back blocking (e.g., a 2x8) running between the studs and then screw directly into that. You could also replace some of the drywall with plywood and then plaster over it.
