I have an 8 year old dog who sometimes leaks urine when she is sleeping. She sleeps with a towel or a pee pad under her butt on our bed in between us. We love her so much it has never even dawned on me to euthanize her over something like this. Her quality of life is excellent in spite of her little problem. 8 is not old! Please contact a rescue group if you have seriously given up on keeping her.

Rehoming an 8 year old is hard enough on the animal. Nobody wants a dog with this issue. Get real.
Fosters will take this dog.
OP you can contact a lab rescue to see if someone will take her. I'm an experienced foster and I would not take her. I might consider putting her downIt would make me feel awful too but there are some things you can't live with, and if the dog is getting sores from wearing diapers/constant dripping, that's a problem. I suppose you could build a kennel outside for when it's not 100 degrees. Sleep in a crate with no blankets inside Doesn't seem like a great quality of life for her. I'll be curious what the vet says.
Yeah, I’d feel a bit chary if the person willing to take on a dog leaking urine everywhere despite treatment. Sounds like a possible animal hoarding situation. My mom’s neighbor had 16 cats who she took in after they were rehomed due to inappropriate peeing. Her home could be smelt from the corner of the block on a hot day. The authorities stepped in and the animals were put to sleep anyway.

I’d also consider telling your kids the truth. They’d old enough to understand how crap her life is. She also may constantly be trying to hold out - nonstop discomfort.
This is probably the best suggestion. Go to a specialty vet like Friendship or South Paws for a second opinion. At the very least that way you could convince your spouse you truly tried everything. There may be a surgical option.

Anonymous wrote:OP HERE. yes I have diapers, she is getting an infection from having wet diapers, I feel so bad but what quality does she have. We have another dog that is allowed to roam the house and the peeing dog must stay outside or in her kennel which she pees in and lays in. It's so gross and sad. I am taking her back to vet, but I am going to tell kids she has cancer in case they say nothing can be done.
