If you start college when you're 18 and graduate in 4 years, you're usually 22, not 24.

So I was hurt when my sister said he probably isn't over his ex as he needs to take them. It's now made me doubt things. Am i just being ridiculous?

A recent breakup of a long marriage, that was not initiated by him... honestly, your sister is right to be concerned, it's very possibly a rebound for him. Try not to get too attached before he actually shows he is committed to something long term.
