I am 5 10, and the queen is a few inches longer. I absolutely hate sleeping in a full. If you want to get bigger bed, switch to twin xl

I can't sleep with my feet hanging off the end

My boys are 5'1 and 6'1 and both have twins beds. One is a loft.

My 19 and 14-year-olds both sleep in twin size beds. They are fine. It's bigger than the bed my 19-year-old sleeps on in college.

I've got a 16 yo and a 13 yo in twin bunk beds (they share a room). It's not a problem.

Twin!!! A full is not any longer. College students sleep in X-long twins. It seems fine.

only if you want them to stay more than one night...

DS is leaving for college next month, and leaving behind the twin bed he's slept in since he left his crib.

We're European, and in all European countries most people use twin size beds unless they sleep with a partner. The notion that a child needs something more, unless he's really large or really tall, is strange.

Some things to consider in favor of a full-
My husband is 6’2” and slept in a twin bed comfortably until he finished his PhD. We sleep in a queen together with plenty of room.
Your kid probably won’t have a queen, or even a full, at college.

In favor of a queen - if you will use it for a guest bed in the future - but you can always get a queen when he moves out in 8-12 years.

My 17 year old has a small room. He has an XL twin with a memory foam mattress and loves it -- plenty long and very comfy.

This has always been my philosophy. Get a full size or larger bed after college graduation and a real job (and with your own money), kid.

My DH is 6'3"-6'4" and he fits comfortably in a full.

My DS is on track to be that tall and he's in a Twin XL, which is what most colleges have.

Note that they're tall and lanky types so not really wide.

Not the OP but parent of a tween boy. Helpful input! Thanks.

My son slept on a twin bed until he moved out for college, and then slept on the twin bed when he'd come home on breaks.

My teen boys are 6'0" and 6'3". Both are in twin beds. They prefer to have the extra floor space rather than getting wider beds at this point.
