Synchronized swimmer. You don’t have to be six foot tall to be good.

Two of my kids rowed. She is the perfect size for a cox! Also, martial arts is a good sport for any size.

Fencing. Her smaller stature may through some opponents off, and many don't even get exposed to the sport until their late middle school years.

For Nova, try Sportrock. I think they have tryouts later this summer. Or Earth Treks if you’re willing to make the drive/metro ride to Crystal City. They switched to a web interest form instead of tryouts this year.

Also get her a membership to one of these gyms and have her boulder on her own between now and the end of summer. Fall is all bouldering competitions anyway.

OP here. Thanks all. She’s done some indoor rock climbing last week and she wants to go back. Are there teams or programs available in NOVA that she can train with for competitions?

Not true. Even setters are at least 5-6. Volleyball is probably the single worst sport for short people.

She sounds like she could be very good at XC/track. Being small and light is an advantage in running, rather than a disadvantage like in some sports.

What are the options at her school?

Really depends on the school but most will have small girls 5'3 or so unless you're with a powerhouse club. Also find out if the school or club has summer 'learn to row' camp for new comers to try the sport.
