I had the same experience being 4 years apart. I feel like the fighting made it worse for our parents than us being distracted by a built-in playmate. However, now we are both in our 20s and are best friends.
I'm female and have a four year older brother. We mostly got along as kids and are still relatively close. I say *relatively* because he ended up being a social conservative (against universal education and healthcare), which I will never be able to understand. We have kids of similar ages and that's been really nice.

22.5 months here and it doesn’t get better, though the first six months is ROUGH!!! Is your first a boy or girl and do you know about the second? Because that changes the dynamics.
