Subject: Refusing permission for camp field trip
I think it is a Dog's Journey, which isn't appropriate for all kids under 8. Common Sense Media says for ages 10+

I'm confused. The only PG movies that *might* still be out:
Secret Life of Pets 2
Aladdin
A Dog's Journey
Biggest Little Farm
Ugly Dolls
Toy Story (rated G)
Fantastica (rated G)
Literally nothing here is scary. Unless you somehow think Aladdin is scary.................... And my 2 yo saw it and my very timid 5 year old did, neither of whom were phased. So if your kid is under 8, I am really lost as to what your concern is and that you think it's 'not ok.'
Also, per google, I was able to find 7 camps within 3 hours of DC that are having movie field trips tomorrow, and that was just by googling random towns and camp schedules.... Aka... you're not going to out yourself. So wtf is this terribly horrific movie?
I wonder if it's "A Dog's Journey". I could see that being intense for a sensitive 6-year-old animal lover.
Also, to you weirdos who took the time to list out current releases and judge OP: it's summer. Lots of theaters have second run movies for free or reduced cost in the summer. It's probably one of those.

This. Most camps are directed and staffed by people who have almost no experience with kids.
The thing to keep in mind, though, is who will stay with your kid? Someone even less qualified than usual? Will she be alone with an adult all day? A few hours? I would have a conversation with the director and get specifics.

If the camp includes an option for you to opt out and leave your kid at the camp, then it's fine to do so. If they expect you to keep your kid at home, then you do that.
It doesn't matter what the movie is or what anyone else thinks of it. You're the parent of your kid and it's fine for you to make decision that no one else would make.

Then speak up now! Perhaps they can see another movie that day if times/ selection is right! My kids watched scary movies rather early, but an organization that cares for elementary schoolers should not be showing PG movies on principle.

Good point. I mentioned Godzilla above but failed to see that it was PG 13. None of these movies are objectionable.

I would have had to keep my kid home. The camp is set up to have a certain ratio, and that didn't allow for one child to stay back.

The only movie out now that they would take kids to see that would be remotely objectionable is Godzilla. BUt I imagine most 8 and 7 year olds can handle it. More likely that they will be bored.
