Gosh, my sons aren't circumcised, but the idea that it is "mutilation" strikes me as uneducated at best (we're not talking about FGM here people) and anti-Semitic at worst. Europeans are known for that too.

And speaking of psychology, it's far more empowering to choose what happens to your body. You cannot simultaneously claim that a man choosing circumcision as an adult will be traumatized but a baby who has no choice will not be similarly traumatized when he realizes what happened to him. Maybe it's a trauma, maybe it's not, but your statement makes no sense.

Ehh, except globally WAY less people are cut than ARE cut. It's actually just an American thing to do this. So, no it's not keto.

No we did not. My DH is cut, and he didn't think the reasons to do it seemed all that compelling.

Curious why you’re reconsidering with this kid (or why dh is.)

10 and 8 yo boys, not circ’d. DH is. I was agnostic about the decision, DH wanted to let our sons decide when they are old enough. It has been a total non issue so far.

We definitely had our son circumcised. In both of our cultures it's an indication of manhood.

My (now ex-)husband remembers being circumcised as a child because that's "when the knife man" came around and handled all of the boys of the village.

No way would I want my son to have that experience. It's different when they are newborn. It was very quick, and done by a top-notch surgeon. He cried only for a moment before I took him to breast and he was fine. We took very good care of the site and it was completely healed within a very short time.

He won't be a man for quite a while yet, but he will never have to face the mocking that even married men face in my (ex-)husband's community for not being circumcised. It's a huge rite of passage.

This was not an aesthetic decision.
