I sometimes send out invites last minute because it is a very casual thing. I am ordering pizza - may have ice cream. Sometimes I feel pressure to have this AMAZING party when I send out invites three weeks in advance.

I just want my son to have his friends over to play or stop by if that is all they have time for. I don’t care if you bring a gift or not.

Do you not have a Target anywhere near you? You can buy a gift, a card, a gift bag and tissue paper all in one stop.

People like OP just like to find things to complain about rather than finding a simple solution to them.

Seriously? Who cares? If you know they always have it on a long holiday, why would you have to rearrange plans?


People have non-kid birthday plans on long weekends.


Wow, way to miss the point. PP's point was, since it sounds like they always have this party on a particular long weekend in the summer, than plan ahead for it, even if you haven't received the invitation yet. Or just don't go if it bugs you. An invitation is not a summons.

Have your DD as friend IN ADVANCE, when is your party? Or you text the mom. Why is this so hard?



Not getting this either. Either talk to the mom or your kid doesn’t go. What’s the big deal? What do you expect from posting here?

I wouldn't change my plans for the long weekend on a birthday party that may or may not happen (you mention they send the invites out late). Ask your DD to find out if the party is on this year. If yes, and your DD wants to go, plan accordingly. If no, then you get to make your own plans. If your DD is old enough, she does the asking. If she is young, then you do the texting and finding out.
