Yeah I let mine do things like that. By 5th grade, they were able to walk to the store, walk to school, and take the train to the theater or ice cream shop to meet friends. They’re at much higher risk of injury or death from car accidents than walking to the store, but how often do you worry about driving them to the same store? It’s new, but chances are, it’ll be fine.

My 12 year old is allowed to do this. He has to tell me when he’s going though and bring his phone with him. We live in the burbs.

Sure. My kid was doing this at 11. Does she have a phone? If so, no brainer. If not, you can still say yes, just establish a route and return time.
