+1. We bought a good mattress for 500$ from mattress discounters. We’ve never spent 2000$ on a mattress although we could definitely afford to do so.

I'd sleep on the couch with the bassinette in that room.

Does he work? You are living off only savings?

All you can do is suggest it to him and see what he says.

If he doesn't want to sleep on the couch (who would???) then I don't think there is anything you can do to make him.

This. When I did make DH get the children I had to get up anyway. It was rough.
But make getting a new mattress (A Casper, a Purple, a something from IKEA, anything as long as it is delivered) a priority.

My husband slept in the basement for about three months when one of our kids was a baby. He was a resident, got up super early and needed sleep to function. It wasn’t a big deal. I see nothing wrong with having him sleep elsewhere for a little while.

We kicked the baby out of our room at 1 week since she was such a loud sleeper I could sleep between feeding. We switched off half the night who stayed in her room on a sleeping bag/blow up mattress to do diaper changes etc. I still got up to feed every 3-4 hrs but just fed and handed her back to DH for everything else when it wasn't "my" shift. This way I got some solid sleep in between and he did too off his shift.

This. He doesn’t sound like that much of a jerk, to be honest. He is the breadwinner.

And yeah you don’t need $2000 for a mattress. We just got a new one. $720 all told and we love it.

You need your sleep if you are the sole caregiver of a baby. Are you falling asleep during the day? Driving is not safe with sleep deprivation (don't ask how I know).

My husband and I have a newborn and alternate who sleeps in bed and who’s on the couch—whoever’s getting up with baby gets the bed. Your husband gets the couch.

This is all to bizarre, especially with your husband being the only bread earner working outside the house, and yes I realize being a new mom is a full time job also. You also state that he does a lot around the house after getting home from work. Lots of wife’s would kill for that.

As for a necklace, that’s simply weird to wear in bed. And as for your bed, why do you need a $2,000. one? What kind of princess are you? Few around here sleep on $2,000. mattresses. Mattresses are ALWAYS on sale, buy a perfectly good $1,000. one on sale for $700. if it’s that bad.

We have an awesome memory foam mattress from Costco that was under 600. You need to prioritize getting a new bed.
