So, I am thinking about a clothing allowance as a solution to having these disagreements every time we go to the store.
Looking for input about whether that has worked for others and what the parameters (in my Qs above) were.
Okay fine. My daughter grew last summer, and upon starting school for 10th grade had no pants that fit, plus she'd completely changed her style (and since that change was "I think I want to stop wearing so much black" I was all too happy to throw money at this). So for 10th grade, I spent $500 on pants, shorts, underwear, t-shirts, sweatshirts and sneakers. She does not wear coats. It was over about three months. After that, I told her flat out "I've spent $500 on clothing for you. No more." Last month I bought her a night-shirt and a pair of pjs, but other than that, no clothes.
I am thinking that come August, I will put $500 cash in an envelope and go with her so she can use the cash and see how it dwindles. I think that will make a bigger impact on her than a $500 visa card or whatever.
