LA Galaxy recently fired the coach who produced Mendez and Llanez. He developed them since they were U11 or younger, as well as Efrain Alvarez who plays for Mexico's youth national team and a number of other US youth team players. It is a handful of coaches who produce talented players despite the flawed system.

The kids that win games at 10 and 12 are NOT the kids who win games at age 20.

If you focus on winning at young ages you’re sabotaging development.

It was more how poorly the US played, not so much about Jamaica having some talent. Poor passing, poor trapping, poor game plan. I believe our u20 team would have beaten both those teams the other night. They move the ball quickly, trap and pass well, show creativity, and have several players that can beat people one on one (de la Fuente), shoot accurately from distance (Mendez), beat people one on two (Weah), and finish (Soto). The senior team the other night had none, or at least none that were involved significantly. I can only attribute this to player selection and preparation which all goes back to coaching.

Anyhow, the senior team, in a meaningful competition, needs the four players mentioned above plus Pulisic, Sargent, Adams, and W. McKennie. Still need to figure out keeper and the defense (but Miazga and Yedlin are a start). 4-3-3. Weah, Sargent, Pulisic up front (Soto as a sub). Adam’s, McKennie, De La Fuente in mid (Mendez as a sub). Rest is tbd but try all the options over the next year while keeping a consistent core of the midfield and forwards in these games to create rythym and synergy. Also, Ramos as coach if Berhalter doesn’t win the gold cup or at least get to the finals. Only Costa Rica and Mexico should seriously challenge us in that competition. Even with a B team.

Jamacia beat Mexico in 2017 gold cup... they did put 11 players on the field that could beat mexico. You can't do that without having some talent.

Further, it took a good year to hire GB. Shouldn’t the figuring out have taken place then? Not on the cusp of the Gold Cup? What does that say about the level of preparation? Mexico is purring, with a new coach. Thank goodness we didn’t have to defend Leon Bailey.
