Because if you reach out to your neighbor and tell them the problem, then it's too late to kill the dogs later because the dog owner will know it's you.

The first step: talk to the neighbor. If that fails, the second step: talk to the neighbor again. If that fails, then look into noise ordinance or HOA.

People that call the police or animal control as a first step are really just scared of "confrontation" (quotes because it is usually a fine and easy convo) and really tax our government resources IMO.

Look, I know it's annoying. But for the love of Jesus H. Christ, it's TEN MINUTES. This is not the end of the world. You don't live in a sealed bubble. You live in a community where annoyances like this occur.

I live next to a fire station. It's so loud. All the time and at times when I'm sleeping. The garbage trucks come at 6 a.m. Also loud - two mornings a week for my own service. Not including the other companies that come for my neighbors. I guarantee all of these sounds are MUCH louder and longer than 10 minutes of barking from a yorkie. But, even if not, this is meant to illustrate that this is not the end of the world. Get a white noise machine or run a fan. Learn to cope with small annoyances. You could make a stand with the police for those 10 minutes. But they would most def roll their eyes at the high-strung person making the request.

I guess you could talk to your neighbor too. And while I'd most def try to be more careful if I was your neighbor, I'd also think you are a drama queen.

Seriously, learn to cope for those 10 min. You may find yourself more resilient than you think.

where i used to live -- a neighbor put the dog outside all evening -- it barked constantly. HATED IT.

+1 We had a neighbor move in with 2 dogs. They spend all their time barking at the other neighbor's dog. And yet dogs are allowed, and backyard chickens are banned.

Buy a Dohm noise machine.

My neighbor does the same thing every night. I have grown used to the dog barking and even feel a comfort in the familiarity of the sound and routine (and I hate outside noise). Knowing that it will stop in 10 minutes should be doable.

We talked to our neighbor. She apologized. We haven’t had any more issues.
