I disagree - the administrators can put a stop to any topic or discussion they choose to. They can take down posts if they choose to. They control the membership. They can post their own messages regarding expectations, appropriate behavior, requests to end an exchange and move on, etc.

I missed the white/elite thing. I think more of us just need to start pushing back toward civility. It's a bit intimidating, but it needs to be done. I think it's still a valuable resource. Or it can be.

Eh. There are people from all backgrounds and with political views from the whole spectrum in Arlington. It shouldn’t be surprising to see that after all the other stuff that’s been posted and even what’s been referenced here. Plenty of people would call other posts propaganda, too. AEM has jumped the shark.

So glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. I can’t take that group as anything more than a parody. Agree that the blatant political postings are ridiculous. Isn’t that supposed to be the whole point of a moderator?

It was the community college post where someone said it would upset white people, but cut off the word and then replaced it with elitist. When that got laughs and was allowed to stay, I knew the admins had checked out.


But she is is not snarky at all.

Just saw one of them just posted a letter to the editor on the Commonwealth’s Attorney office as if it were a fact-based news story.

I used to love AEM. I found it to be a great source for what is happening in APS and to discuss school issues. Lately, it seems like a few people are dominating the conversation and also shutting down open dialog. It feels very much like an echo chamber. I once got a nasty PM from an APS employee when I was sharing my experience on something rather benign. It soured me on the group
