My child currently at Blair. There are too many clubs to list. Check out the website. My child is not a super sporty type, but keeps super busy with all of the options

Have your DC look at the school newspaper Silver Chips, available online:

Key Club (service club) could be a great way to meet people and earn SSL hours.

I don't think it's helicoptering if you encourage your child to join at least one activity. You're just looking for some suggestions. I don't know how it is at Blair, but Mock Trial is quite active at my DC's school. If my DC were at Blair, I'd encourage him/her to join the Linguistics Club. (I think it is present only at Blair and Poolesville and enters national competitions). Tell us more about how your DC spends spare time. Any favorite camp activities?

By the way, is your child new to the area? Most high schoolers have some friends from middle school when starting, even if they shift friends later. Make sure that your DC has at least one "social" class freshman year. It could be photography, visual art, PE, theatre, etc. These classes usually have a lot of time to chat or work together on projects.

Is your child looking, or are you looking for your child?

Let your child take the lead. The transition to high school will be tough, so one thing at a time.

What do they do during band camp? What about “conditioning” days?
