Last summer, we found good shorts options for my daughter at Target (some Cat and Jack options with softer fabrics and full elastic waists) and Old Navy (check out the “cuffed French terry” shorts with adjustable waist tabs). Don’t bother with ones with more structured fabric though, like chinos or jeans shorts. Those never work for for my DD.

Lands End fits my skin and bones kid and they have slim sizes.
