I bought cotton terry swim robes at costco. Took the kids to the pool in their swim suits and they put the swim robe on after swimming and we drove home. The changing rooms are for convenience but you don't have to use them.

Depend on the child. Mine struggled to get his wet jammer off as they are very snug. I don't let mine in a locker room alone. Too many bad things.

An 8 year old should be able to change him/herself without problems. A five year old may still get their suit on backwards, etc, so they can come in.

It's not just about the adults seeing a naked kid, it's about the kid seeing a naked adult. As an adult female, I am uncomfortable with boys over a certain age being in the women's room. I actually stopped going to a local pool over the issue; in this case, the locker rooms were completely open with no shower stalls. During the time I went for lap swim, there was a local homeschooling group that took swim lessons, and some moms brought their elementary age boys into the womens locker room. I was just too uncomfortable with 7 year old boys present while I was naked/showering, so I cancelled my membership.

I think it was wrong of your family to have your 6 year old daughter in the men's room when you could have taken her in the womens room.

I think there comes a time when its also about making the adults comfortable being able to change. An 8 or 9 year old girl in a mens changing room is no more appropriate for the men or the girl. Same with an 8 or 9 year old boy in a women's changing room.
