Apparently the altercation started inside with arguing but the assault happened outside. We talked to the police and they have the puzzle almost finished, all assailants have been identified and they are just collecting more evidence. We expect them to make arrest in the next few days.
So the arrests are coming at least. Glad D.C. metro is on it quickly.
Also there's a Gofundme for his wife and teenage son (he had two older adult children as well) - https://www.gofundme.com/1n7nudzdxc
Why would there be a Gofundme? I would assume a well-paid Senate staffer would have life insurance.

Apparently the family is telling friends/family to not talk to anyone unless they identify themselves as MPD. They are concerned that private investigators for the assailants will be reaching out and trying to dig up dirt on the victim. The MPD already has identified the suspects.
Oh wow. Private investigators? Meaning he got into a fight with people of means. Interesting, interesting.
The restaurant/bar this was at btw is the Scarlet Oak restaurant. Not cheap but standard pricing for D.C.
It's a nice place. I'm surprised we haven't heard from employees yet. r/washingtondc has no threads on this crime, which is bizarre. I'm guessing the Reddit moderators are deleting them because this would be a prime Reddit discussion.
