Can you practice driving with your niece on the same route? I would be ok with local driving. Not highway

What about ask her parents? Why is it always the mom?

Have you seen her driving? If she seems like a decent driver, it will be fine. If not, then no. It’s probably fine.

Good grief! They aren't driving across country or on rutted, muddy roads through a jungle invested with rebel shooters!

Land your helicopters people, this is FINE!

Well since our most recent au pair was 19, yes, I would allow this, barring any concerns about her driving specifically.

Op We have a teen sitter in the summer, she will be 17, almost 18 when she starts with us in June. She is also very mature and responsible but I still do no want her driving my now 6yo around.
I would not let your niece drive your kid.
ASkf if she can go with your 4yo in someone elses car.
On a side note this seems like a crazy field trip if its mandatory for a parent to go and no transportation is provided.

You said she's going to be part of a caravan...which does help things a little. But why not just ask another parent if she can drive DS and your niece. I'm not sure why that's not an option and you go straight to your kid missing it.

You're being ridiculous.

I don’t really see anything wrong with this, she’s an adult. I was driving my baby nieces and nephews around at that age.

I don't have a problem with this if she got her license at 16.

Far too many of my teen kid's friends have delayed getting their license to ages 17 and even some at 18!

When I was a kid in NC, high school students were our bus drivers in elementary school. Seriously, a 16 year old could get school credit for driving a school bus. As parent now I find this completely insane. But also makes me thinks 18 is probably fine for driving your kid.

I would have no issue with this.

You people are nuts. Why let anyone drive them around?!?

Big difference between 18 and 28 — we’ve all lived it, what’s the secret? Also, the obvious 10 years of driving experience and a record you can check.

I don't understand why nobody is carpooling? At my children's preschool, parents arranged carpools. I would not let an 18 year old drive on unfamiliar roads, even in a caravan with other parents. I don't care which other posters drove their siblings or busloads full of kids as teens (insane).

I would probably do it, but since you are nervous why not ask another parent if they can drive both of them?
