She had been acting lethargic and started having trouble jumping off the couch but otherwise seemed fine. The vet initially thought she was sick and prescribed antibiotics; then they thought it was back pain, perhaps due to a slipped disk. She started declining rapidly after a round of pain killers and steroids. They wanted to do an MRI of her neck and spine, but then she had a seizure at the vet, so they did one of her head instead and found a massive brain tumor that had spread to her lymph nodes, meaning there was no chance she would survive. She died before we could even bring her home from the vet. You are not alone in having something like this happen, and it has been devastating for us, as I'm sure it is for you. Sending you best wishes.
OP here - thank you for this. Just devastating. It sounds very similar to the timeline with ours. I'm sorry you didn't have more time with her.
And thanks to everyone who has shared about their pet's loss.
