My DD was 4 and went to her first bd party sleepover, but we were also friends with the other girls' parents. DD is now 9 and has been to 3 sleepovers. I only allow it if I know the parents well.

Is this sleep away with grandma (any age) or sleep away with friends (age 10).

5 but they knew the other child's parents pretty well and they lived in our neighborhood. We have a pretty close-knit group of friends and kids where we spend a lot of time at each other's houses and the kids know all the parents.

OP - most of all, whenever you do this, please let the other parent know that this is your kid's first sleepover (and give the parents the option of not inviting your kid. It may not go well)

One of the worst memories of having a kid sleep over at our house, and this was maybe 3rd grade, was the parent dropped the kid off and as the parent's getting in her car says, "oh by the way, Emily will probably be wanting to come home. It always happens. She just wasn't managed to have a successful sleepover yet"

So in the middle of the night I'm dealing with a crying, ridiculous child who wants to go home, and in 3rd grade it was reasonable of me to assume, before inviting, that she could handle this.
