There it is, folks, the reason many reasonable people are skeptical of climate change hysteria. It is a too-convenient weapon in the global fight against capitalism. (btw, communist countries wrecked havoc on the environment, comrade).

You can be zero waste and companies are still cranking out tons of plastic we don't want or need. Slowly we are catching on as a group. Only after seeing straws stuck up a turtle's nose has there been a movement to get rid of plastic straws. We need to go back to simpler ways. Every food item is individually wrapped. Every time a human eats something, multiple times a day, times 7.7 billion people, is how many billions or infinity pieces of plastic that are piling up. We would need to go back to an agrarian society where everyone makes their own food, but people are enslaved by corporations. Corporations force people to put time in at a job and then they can't feed themselves without buying food in a store encased in plastic. It's f-ed up. Humans are really smart, and even more so really stupid.
We are trying to be a zero plastic waste household. I carry silverware with me for lunches out where they give plastic forks, etc. But we need companies to reduce single use plastic and to be responsible for their own waste. The oceans are full of plastic. We can skip the produce bag, always bring reusables grocery bags to the store, stop using and buying ziplocs and baggies. Would you stop using ziplocs to help your kids have less plastic in the their oceans in the future?

Seriously? Capitalism has done more to save lives than you can count! From medical treatments, medications, safe means of travel, safer forms of shelter, quality food that has been tested, etc. Scary you don’t realize this.
Many of those things are the result of government regulation, or government/nonprofit research. Unregulated capitalism led to companies selling adulterated food, which necessitated the FDA. When you buy a carton of milk at the store, do you wonder whether it will contain actual milk, or do you assume it will? If the latter, you have government regulations to thank.
Unregulated capitalism leads to companies charging a fortune for life-saving drugs that were developed using government investment.

“We have never had a single unified statement from the world’s governments that unambiguously makes clear the crisis we are facing for life on Earth,” says Thomas Brooks, chief scientist at the International Union for Conservation of Nature in Gland, Switzerland, who helped to edit the biodiversity analysis.
