Is your friend married? Does she have children?

Because a lot of them want to contribute and miss it but feel like they HAVE to be at home. It's bizarre. My sister has a JD and literally does medical billing in her basement during preschool hours. Ugh.

Lucky sister! Was it Jason Momoa?
I’d convert if it was!

I grew up in Arizona in an area that was heavily Mormon. I don’t think there are any women who I went to high school with who are Mormon and work outside the home, and I don’t remember any of my friends moms working either, but that was also almost 30 years ago. There are several Mormon families at my kids school and none of those moms work either. From a young age boys are given leadership roles and responsibilities that girls aren’t, it really is designed for gender separation.

I know some Mormons:

Woman who grew up across the street from me, for years managed a stable (loved horses from when she was a kid) in northern California.
78-year-old lady I met (raised her grandson with developmental disabilities, met her through a volunteer organization) who left an abusive husband decades ago and worked all kinds of low-paid, basically pay the rent jobs.
Older sister of a friend of mine who is pretty dingy, sees angels when she's taking a shower, was a home ec major who also attended the Fashion Institute, later managed a business with her second husband who did psych testing for the military, then enrolled in a Psy D program, started calling herself Dr., dabbled with her grad education for 10 years but has now been dropped. Her main ambitions are really marrying men with money, which is why she's on husband #3.
Random other people. None of the ones I know grew up Mormon, they are as random (i.e. normal or not normal) as any other people with the addition of a weird religion, and not necessarily conservative even.

Op here. I am not a bigot. I also mentioned I was a SAHM. I just was trying to understand whether my experience with those I knew was the norm or an anomaly. I had four very smart female Mormom friends in high school. I always thought they'd end up becoming engineers or physicians, etc. But they all went to BYU, had several children and have been SAHMs ever since.

It sounds like there are exceptions and I appreciate those who have commented so far.

Marriott was founded by Mormons. There are also some law firms run by mostly Mormon partners. These companies tend to be more understanding about time off for church, etc. and draw many Mormon applicants.

I know one who works as a nurse. I think she waited until her kids (she has two) were in school to go back to work. I don't know if she works FT or PT.

It's not an unfair question.

I know quite a few Mormon families where the woman works outside of the home. In most cases, they stayed home with their children until the last started to school before taking a job.

I know two female Partners in my large firm who are both highly active in their stakes.

Yes, it is possible. Just not often something many pursue.

Above converted for a SO. Left based on bishop’s comments.

My mother converted to Mormonism (and their seven heavens) when a bishop in the church said any job a women has belongs to a man. I know lots of lovely people who are Mormon, but think their teachings heavily favor men.
