Hm...my 65 year old mom was in one and still has friends from it. They called it "baby group." I'm 34, so they've been around at least that long. It was a way to meet new people in a similar stage of life when she moved to my hometown. Not for me, but they're not a new thing.

Lol it’s not at all like a sorority in any way. I wish it were!
I actually think it’s a lot like one. Or seems like it to me. No one seems like real, true friends. They’re all people who needed to “buy” their friends. The meet ups feel forced. It’s so basic.
I quit my membership, can you tell?

Yeah maybe if it were like a sorority, it would be actually fun and not like pulling teeth to get anyone other than the same 10 people to show up for stuff.
I just don’t think there’s a lot of stay at home moms in this area anymore. Even at my kid’s half-day preschool, it seems like half the kids are dropped off/picked up by a nanny or grandparent. I’m told that when our club started in the early 2000’s it had close to 100 members. Now we’re lucky if we have 40.
What's wrong with the 10 people who show up and actually want to participate? You only take your friends in batches of 40?
