That is not how admissions works.

They can't give out infinite acceptances, so she took the place of someone else who got rejected. This is extremely obnoxious. The common APP should limit applications to some reasonable number.

Yeah, but he could have gotten into 200 colleges if he'd applied to the right ones.

I feel bad for kids that would have wanted to go to the other 114 colleges but didn't get in because this kid was playing games.

Let's ask jeff to put this as a sticky at the top of the forum.

I can't imagine what their mailbox looked like each day. My DD got into 9 schools (all she applied to) and it's amazing how much info they all send every week. Some schools send brochures and postcards almost daily.

I chuckled when I read this:

One of these things is not like the others. Brandeis? In contention along with a bunch of southern schools and HBCUs? Seemed an unusual choice (I attended an HBCU myself, but my other choice was not Brandeis, lol).

Why? Look, 115 colleges is excessive, but also extremely rare. What would be the point in punishing the next class of applicants?

I'm always surprised at the number of students that apply to three or four schools. That's great if you really know where you want to go and plus a safety or two. Most students, particularly around here, ought to apply more broadly, because merit aid is much harder to predict than most think.
