I have and will guide my child through authentic practice such as estimating restaurant bill totals, estimating 10% and doubling for tip, visiting the library for pleasure reading, etc.

They will be at camp, on family vacation, and hanging out at the pool with friends. There will be late night fires with Smores, lazy mornings in pjs, visits to downtown DC, time with relatives andfriends, reading for enjoyment, bit absolutely no school work!
My kid will be doing those things plus a little practice for the next school year, to help prevent summer slide. I’ve also found that it makes the transition back to school easier, since they’re not totally out of routine with school work.
