What about Target clothes? They’re super trendy and cute.

I’m 32 and wear AEO for specific things. Some Abercrombie is really great too though, the quality is kind of better than AEO.

Ae was way more expensive than Hollister last week but my kid just started shopping at those stores so it was my first impression after making purchases.

Aerie is pretty expensive for basic leggings. My daughter prefers her JC Penney leggings. The American Eagle jeans fit her well but she doesn’t like how all of the tops have the AE logo. Sometimes she finds a cute top at AE but she prefers Hollister, Brandy Melville, and PacSun. Altar’d State is too expensive and the Francesca’s sizing is too all over the place.

My 12yo DD wears Aerie leggings and underwear.

DS's AE blue jeans left blue on his skin after being washed once. We put up with it due to excellent fit BUT dye bleeding in this color of jean is a sign of skipped steps/cheaped out manufacturing. It is perfectly possible to make this color and not have rub-off color. They are medium deep blue not the stiff, very dark blue that was trendier a few years ago.

Buy fewer, better-quality pieces and make your daughter responsible for her own laundry to keep herself in pants.

P.S. Lululemon has had several quality crises that received media attention. Teach your daughter to assess quality based on individual garment characteristics, not brand. While understanding that cool factor is a separate issue.

I still remember my kid getting teased for the Italian school shoes I bought on a great sale at Nordstroms. He came home telling me that kids were making fun of his "off-brand shoes" because everyone was wearing Nikes. I told him to tell them brands don't matter and to bug off.

With that attitude, she’d get nothing but Target clothes. Cheap? Then she can get a job and earn the money to buy her own clothes.

My 15 year old has clothes from all of these stores and it’s all basically the same level quality. (Not high, but not Shein-level terrible.) Every now and then she’ll get something that’s surprisingly well made.

Two teen daughters--
I set budget limits (no more than $25 for a shirt; $40 for jeans, etc.) and require all clothes meet school dress codes, but I don't fight about what stores they shop. They both like American Eagle and Aerie for their basics. If they want something from pricier stores, they either buy it themselves or ask for it for Christmas/birthday.
