Is your kid a junior. What are they interested in. Majors, career, clubs, etc... Why does she like about this school and has not liked any others.

You have no basis to say it is mediocre. And your median income argument fails on multiple levels, including that it is an entirely self-reported number. Midd is a great school (as are the similar schools mentioned above). Don't know what it did to cross you (thought I think we all have a pretty good idea), but you are raving.

I’m an alum who makes several times $62k a year as do many of my classmates- two of whom were Supreme Court clerks. Many alums go into law and medicine but many also go into the nonprofit world as the school tends to attract people interested in the world, languages and the environment. I had a great experience but it’s not for everyone.

Also, the price tag is a bit misleading. Middlebury includes a comprehensive fee in the tuition which always brings it high on the list of expensive schools but when you compare tuition plus room and board at most other schools it’s about the same and even a lot less compared with schools in big cities.

And finally, it’s in an amazing location and over an hour and a half to the Canadian border.

Isn't Middlebury 50% student-athletes and like 90% overall top prep and boarding kids? It's not really a college you randomly stumble upon if you're some public school or at some lower caliber private. But if your kid is into it and plugged in, it's a great place. Good chance s/he'll meet their spouse there.

I would have paid full freight for DC to go there, but that's because I wanted to go there for college. I probably would have loved it at Middlebury - I like winter and skiing and the Middlebury Snow Bowl was appealing. I ended up at a similar small remote LAC and have done very well post grad so the investment paid off. DC wanted a bigger school so wasn't interested in LACs. Different things appeal to different people. If it's not your thing OP no one is requiring you to pay or your DC to attend.

K-12 education is laying your life's foundation, it is substantially more important than college (especially if you're splitting hairs of SLAC vs top public U). Kids are pretty baked in the cake by college, if we're being honest with ourselves.

They all cost a lot of money. If you can get into one of these "far more prestigious schools" then go for it. Best of luck.

Headmaster at DC's private went there and several of the other administrators and instructors. That's all I know about it. And ranked #5 LAC is USNWR.

It is an excellent SLAC. I wouldn't pay full freight because I can't do so, but for a family that can, it's a good choice.

If your child has a true passion around languages, it is impossible to beat! Otherwise I would say no.

I personally wouldn't send my kids to any private school, but this question is weird. If you don't think it's good enough to send your kid if you have to pay full freight, why is it a good enough school if you aren't? If you can afford it, do it. If you can't, don't.
