We bought target light up sneakers and my DC has a weak ankle and wears orthotics. These shoes have held up well and are enough support from challenged DC.

I have no problem with the ugly-ness of the shoes. I'm more worried about them being supportive, lightweight and flexible. Do you not worry about that?

I’m obviously less concerned. She’s in cowboy boots and rain boots half the time. She’s 3, not 15mo. She rides a balance bike in her sneakers a lot and they’ve held up fine. They are actually incredibly lightweight.

Yes to these. My daughter just outgrew hers and I don't think they're made anymore. They were awesome!!

+1. My 4 YO has a pair from the DSW clearance rack. Makes crappy weather days a little better

My question wasn't if I should buy light up shoes, I just don't want to sacrifice shoe quality because I know once we get them the kids aren't going to want to wear any other shoes until the batteries run out. We went for stride rite.

In the future, go to an independent shoe store and maybe you will get a very experienced employee or the owner who can tell you what to look for. I lucked in to that once and it has been very helpful. Even the stride rite shoes have some with the non tightenable elastic that keeps you from being able to lace up a shoe to fit correctly. So annoying. Overall I do think Stride Rite makes good shoes though.

My twins are 7. One no longer wants light up shoes (since about age 5). The other is still into them. We got the most recent pair from Sketchers about 3 months ago and they've held up pretty well so far. We used to get them from Stride Rite and the shoes held up longer than the lights did. The batteries were usually out by the time we retired the shoes.

I've seen a lot of options. Saw them in the Sketchers and Footlocker stores and a few other athletic shoe departments.

A coworker bought some, I think at Walmart. They come with a remote control to change the color of the lights. (We work with little kids, by the way.)

Sadly, it seems that Puma has discontinued it's light up shoes. There are only a few random sizes left.

+1 I came to post these. We've had these and Sketchers Twinkle Toes ones. The Puma ones are much more subdued and not as bright, and they're comfortable.

Sincere question: Why does a little kid have to wear subdued shoes?

Another vote for the Puma ones. DS has been wearing his since last Sept and wore them daily pretty much all fall/winter (only alternated with rain boots and snow boots). One has stopped working but they're still in great shape!
