My 5 year old doesn't and never has. My 8 year old has had the same one since he was about 1. It's pretty gross.

I got DS an intentional lovey, the angel dear small blanket with animal head. It took him a little while, but he loves it. But then we got a stuffed dino, and that's become his main lovey. And a few other stuffed animials cycle in an out of the secondary lovey role. The one he chooses the most is the intentional lovey.

PP here. Yes, a little scrap of cloth with a soft animal head. Every night for years.

+1 my kid too. His sister couldn't care less about the one she received.

Then kid#4 was born and around the 9 month mark he came across a lovey that was gifted to us and, lo and behold, never let it go. And that was 3 yrs ago.

You cant make a blanket (no pun intended) statement. There are a ton of baby/kid gadgets and toys out there that are seemingly pointless...until you have a kid that just totally clicks with it.

Same! One of mine got one when just three months old - she grabbed it and loved it! 8 years old and still loves to sleep with it.

My kids (5 & 2.5) each have one. They’ve used them since they were babies. They also sleep with a bed full of stuffed animals, but the one they can’t sleep without is the lovey.

I think kids who got them as babies are more attached to them. I know there are many parents who don’t allow any objects until past the age of one, but our pediatrician played a sleep lovey (small handkerchief sized blanket with animal head) once they could roll both ways, so we introduced them around 6 months and they’ve always been excellent sleepers, partly I think because of the lovey.

I meant intentional.

Both my kids have 2 things they’ve slept with since they were babies-1 regular stuffed animal and one blanket animal. They’re now 4 and 7. The 7yo sleeps with a bed full of stuffed animals now, but she has to have her main two every night still.

Same here. My lovey was stuffed bear. My brother's was a small blanket that he carried around until it was worn to shreds. My kid never had a specific comfort object, although she loves stuffed animals and likes to carry one with her, it's not always the same one.

My middle (now 5.5) has had the same lovey for four years now and he still LOVES the damn thing. He just informed me that said lovey is due for a third surgical repair, so I'll need to break out the needle and thread.

The youngest has two "babies" that he alternates, but he's not as attached as his older brother. My oldest never got into a lovey, but then we were also too paranoid to put one in her crib.

My DS has one and it travels with us. He treats it like a stuffed animal. No big deal.

My four year old has a lovey (owl attached to a blanket) that she loved since she was 6 months. Still loves it. But she loves THAT lovey, not loveys in general. It would be weird (and useless) for her to receive a brand new lovey as a gift now.

My husband had his cloth diaper lovey until he was about 6 according to my MIL. My kids never took an interest in loveys, they just love their blankies. DS1's is a full size sherpa blanket that he carries through the house which is getting a little annoying...
