OP - Based upon the disability, an accommodation can be in the form of class notes being provided in high school and in college by the teacher or more likely in college a student in the class paid to do so. For a student who is college bound and will need some Sevices, be sure to contact the disability services office to see what kind of documentation is required regarding the disability and what kinds of accommodations are offered. Finding a study skills class or tutor/ coach to teach such skills may be worth it , as there will be another adult holding the teen to be responsible for his education besides you the parent. Organization skills are a basic part of life.

My kid is a junior in honors and AP classes in public. I was shocked to realize he just started taking notes this year.

I think that is appropriate in middle school when students begin taking notes but by high school, it becomes a crutch. They don't do this in college.
