It's generic/ enamel and mouth ph. My dh and sister had the same diet growing up and teeth brushing. He has never had a cavity at 40.
His sister has had them since early age and her teeth are stiill a mess and she's a vegetarian now and no sugar and great dental hygiene.

Yes- we would survive without much fluoride, and it is naturally occurring in some foods at high enough levels such that you could get the benefit of it form diet, but most people don't eat the foods that are high enough in fluoride to give the benefit. Archaeologists have looked at populations that had particularly good teeth given the complete lack of dental care at the time the people lived and shown that they eat foods high in fluoride that were't available to other populations. Not to mention the properly conducted, peer reviewed studies that show fluoride does in fact reduce cavities and promote good dental health.

Sealants dont stop cavities between teeth. My 9 year old has small cavities inbetween baby teeth and I don’t know whether to fill them or not. They will fall out in about 3 years or so.

We take DS to our family dentist. He sent us to a Pediatric Dentist because he does not use the gas and so does not fill cavities for younger kids. So he was not lining his pockets.

Untreated acid reflux.

My dentist says it is genetic. He has tons of cavities despite a high awareness of good dental hygiene and diet..and tons of cavities. His wife is pretty laid back about both and has no dental issues. He also says he makes lots of money off of people with sealants that get food stuck underneath them as they wear.

My kid had two baby teeth come in with cavities already present.

+1 My dad is a retired dentist and we sadly know of dentists who take a very aggressive stance on putting holes in teeth. Some are dishonest and some are just quicker to drill than others. We had to try a few before we found one who I think is legitimate. Avoid anyone who advertises heavily or has a fancy website (where do you think that $$ came from?). A good dentist should have no trouble filling their chair through referrals.

Can you ask your dad what to do about a 9 year old with an inflamed gum on one tooth? Do you treat it or just wait for teeth to grow in around it? The gum is inflamed because my DD chews on the other side of her mouths and the saliva isn’t cleaning it. I don’t know what to do about it. She says it doesn’t hurt her.

not PP but are you sure there is nothing under the gum? My sister is a hygienist and the number one thing she pulls out from under someone's gums are popcorn hulls. Flossing sometimes works to get it out, otherwise during a cleaning they can feel around for it.

Does he breathe through his mouth or his nose? Children that are mouth breathers, especially at night, have less saliva and more cavities.
