If you are ok with the shedding, I'd choose a pure golden over a goldendoodle. But we decided against a golden because I would rather take my dog to a groomer than deal with fur all over my clothes and house again.
All being said, my goldendoodle is very sweet and cuddly and a wonderful pet for a family with several kids.
I would second all of this. I've had both, and Golden Retrievers are definitely "easier" dogs than doodles. On the other hand, my doodle has much more personality than my golden, and I find him much more entertaining. He's very smart and wants to please me, but I definitely have to direct his energy in a positive direction. The golden was sweet, but after he was about 3 or 4, he was essentially a rug that eats. I also would rather pay for a groomer than have hair all over my house. I was still getting dog hair out of the carpet in the back of my SUV for
years after my golden died.
