Our 1 year old, 45 lb F1 is awesome. She is sweet, fun, energetic. She loves people and people love her.

Agree with this. My doodle had "fleece" that didn't get matted at all until he was around 2 years old, and then his fur became much more poodle-like. We now need to comb him well at least once a week, and I have him groomed about every 6 weeks to 2 months (depending on the time of year -- I let him get a little longer in the winter).

I think collecting things is a doodle trait, as well. I'll be working at my desk, not paying attention to what the dog is doing, and when I finally look down, I'll have a pile of 5-6 chew toys at my feet.

If you are ok with the shedding, I'd choose a pure golden over a goldendoodle. But we decided against a golden because I would rather take my dog to a groomer than deal with fur all over my clothes and house again.

All being said, my goldendoodle is very sweet and cuddly and a wonderful pet for a family with several kids.


I would second all of this. I've had both, and Golden Retrievers are definitely "easier" dogs than doodles. On the other hand, my doodle has much more personality than my golden, and I find him much more entertaining. He's very smart and wants to please me, but I definitely have to direct his energy in a positive direction. The golden was sweet, but after he was about 3 or 4, he was essentially a rug that eats. I also would rather pay for a groomer than have hair all over my house. I was still getting dog hair out of the carpet in the back of my SUV for years after my golden died.

Mini golden doodles are so much larger than mini poodles! The average weight of a mini poodle is 15 pounds and all of the dogs been mentioned are at least 30 pounds or more
