I have both and the Highlander is not nearly as nice as a BMW interior. Don’t kid yourself.

you can get either. a bench seat with three seats or captains chairs with 2 seats. the captain's chairs are very close together

Yup. There is just no way to make a third row easy to get to without it being a huge car. I don't know what people are expecting. If you need to put in car seats, get a mini van. There is a solution for you. You just don't like it.

and sometimes even 4 year olds need help buckling. it's so annoying to try and squeeze back to the third row and buckle them. Ask me how I know! my next car will have captain's chairs with room to walk through them.

I had a Yukon with captains chairs and a third row. It still sucked.

I appreciate everyone else's suggestions - Highlander, Acadia, etc but I want a luxury car. What luxury SUV can do this?

What you are describing is very much a first world problem. You can just buy it and live with it. You will get used to it.

Yeah. I don't get it. What's the big deal? You load the third row first then the second row. If kids are old enough to just climb into the backseat, they're old enough to lift the seat to get out

Plan where everybody sits based on order of dropoff or pickup. We do this and it is quick and efficient.

I'm really struggling to see the "problem."

anyone considering buying this car realizes it is a first world problem. It's just that we have choices and it's disappointing that you can't get to the third row from the second row. I have a bmw x5 with a third row currently. I am well aware of kids climbing over the seat...trying to squeeze into the third row by moving second row up ( with car seats) and entering and exiting through the trunk. It sucks! This is why moms like captain's chairs! we want easy and fast and we don't want muddy footprints on the second row seats. other car companies seem to understand that this is what families want. I'm disappointed that BMW does not have this option. I'm going to be ok though! I will just move on to another car.

I thought it would be a great alternative to a Suburban or large SUV and minivan. I was disappointed to see that the arm rests in the captains chairs almost touch each other. A child or anyone can not go through the captain's chairs to get to third row. The only way to get to third row is to fold forward the middle seat ( much like an x5 with a third row).

I wish some company would make an SUV with 3 rows that has captain's chairs in the second row that isn't huge like a suburban.

I also don't understand why BMW made this larger SUV if it isn't designed for families. Who is going to buy it?

My Nissan Armada has captain’s chairs with room to get to the third row.

Even the third row of the suburban is tight

I’m not the earlier poster but I assume that if there are car seats involved there is no easy way to get into the third row. Hence wanting captains chairs.

I have a RR Sport with a 3rd row. It's not captains chairs but the 3rd row is easy to get into via the truck or fold-in second row.
