+100%! I know of kids whose ttest scores were above 132 for both NNAT and CogAt with low GBRS (1 kids had 7 another had 10) and both kids did not get accepted on the first round. They both went through appeals with better work samples, etc.

Yeah. I know tons of kids with much lower scores than OP's who were admitted. But I still think GBRS is very important to the committee, and OP's scores are not high enough to be standalone scores. In my experience, if you have a bright kid who is doing well in school, it's not hard to get a good GBRS. OP's kid sounds like he'll get a decent GBRS, so the scores + that mean the kid will likely be in.

There are some people on this site who make it seem really hard to get in but that’s not my experience IRL. Idk if they’re lying or being honest but live somewhere different from me where that’s their reality bc prepping is more rampant or something.

None of these things are advanced algebra. They may have algebra foundational work, like 22 +x = 32. I guarantee those places or books aren’t teaching advanced algebra. If your child was at the level of advanced algebra in 2nd gr, the school would know. It would be extraordinary. A kid taking algebra even in 5th is very, very, very rare. In 6th, it’s rare but not unheard of.

Sorry, there’s no advanced algebra done in elementary school AAP. And what exactly is reading comprehension for the gifted and talented? You sound like an idiot.

The child is generally considered top 3 in the class and gets 4s across all exams. Not a prepped child or else the scores would have been a lot higher. I am afraid he is not a people pleasure and I am concerned how would the school know he is a lot more talented than his scores. Anyways, we have decided to move forward with the Advanced Academic curriculum at home through external resources such as advanced algebra and reading comprehension for the gifted and talented. The base school is great. So, I am not afraid of the GenEd.

Even if a kid preps to a 145+, that kid would have been in-pool without prepping. You can't prep a 120 to a 145. You certainly can prep a 120 to a 132.

Any kid with barely in-pool scores and no support from the school or teachers is likely to look prepped and not legitimately gifted. For OP, admission will likely depend on whether the school recommends the child via GBRS or not.
