Klaus and Five made the show for me. They were perfectly cast and elevated the show enough for me to binge through it. I fast forwarded through most of the stuff with Ellen Page. I predicted her arc in the first episode. I did find the stuff about her childhood entertaining, especially her first interactions with Mom. I think not showing where they came from or what happened to the others gives them a lot of plot options going forward.

I'm curious to see how season two goes given the way they all changed at the end of season one.

I just finished and really liked it. It was a bit quirky so I can see why some people did not. As one poster already said, pogo threw me for a second.

Okay, didn't want to spoil anything. I don't think he was a time traveler - I just think he came from an advanced civilization and used all that tech to set himself as an eccentric billionaire over 70 odd years.

If he knew what was coming, he wouldn't have gotten them all together. Because those events of them being together were the cataclysm to set off the apocalypse or whatever you want to call it. Pretty sure she wouldn't have flipped if she'd just stayed in that cabin and never been imprisoned. Though that rat of a boyfriend got what was coming to him.

Oh, that makes sense! Especially because when he immigrated to the United States, based on clothing choices, it looked like he was either really old fashioned or had gone forward in time by several decades.

I paused the Netflix episode to get a clear look at his boarding pass. It was for a ship in 1928. Think he landed on this planet sometime around then, he took a ship to U.S. east coast, and there you saw he bought that Umbrella Academy shop that was for sale.

I think he just passed the building down over the years to consecutive versions of himself until 2019 came around and he died. From the scenes with his wife I'd estimate him in his late 40s to 50s and then add in the 70 years he spent before he died - it would make him around 140 years old.

Though I would be interested to learn if someone had read the comics and could back that up.

See - I hated Hazel's story line. I just thought it was another useless sub-plot. Cha-cha was badass but seeing her continuously getting beaten got on my nerves. She was the better fighter, more intelligent, and loyal meanwhile Hazel was going after a woman that was so...ugly and twenty years his senior. I thought they had a weird partnership that worked, but I would have been happy for them just to die off in the first three episodes.

RE Ellen Page - they could have saved us four pill-popping episodes and made the villain one of the 35 other umbrella kids.

There's average and then there's a doughnut shop worker or bus driver 'woman of your dreams'. I like the older woman/younger man fantasy and I wouldn't have minded if she was say Carol from the Walking Dead and badass. But Christ the woman made donuts and was dumb as a box of rocks.
