I think this level of exercise would be normal if she didn't have a husband or children. But considering she has time to workout during the day, I find it problematic that she's going to a class at night during the few hours the family has together. Sure a class here and there if she missed her daytime workout is fine, but it seems unhealthy to me if her exercise obsession is getting in the way of life.

Sometimes she will come back and insist on taking our son swimming in the community pool. We live in a warm climate so we can swim the majority of the year. Some days her classes are at 6:30 and other days it may be 7-8 pm. I get home around 6 pm. Does this sound excessive or is this just me? My wife struggles with joint pain and she says exercising makes her feel better.

Better watch out for those Soul Cyclist instructors, they will have your wife in the sack before you can say 10 speed!

OP, your wife is not an efficient exerciser.

I sometimes do two classes a day. It’s the best thing I’ve found to manage my mental health and autoimmune fatigue. I don’t have kids though so it doesn’t impact others as much. But this level of exercise is not unheard of...

Op here. A lot of times I drop her off at the classes. Cheating for 1 hour during a class? I doubt it.

Huh? Why do you drop her off? Why doesn’t she drive herself? Why don’t you workout with her?

Has she always exercised hard or something recently developed? How old is she? Exercise has many health benefits and makes you feel good. Maybe she’s trying to look good for you as well. If she’s not eating and rapidly losing weight to unhealthy level then I would worry.

Pessimistic view could be she’s in a midlife crisis and paying obsessive attention to her appearance or trying to look good for someone else. Sorry I’m not helping as I don’t know your situation. I myself wish I could be obsessed with working out. Everyday my husband has to drag me to go exercise with him. It is an hour of hell.

Do either you or her have expectations she will stay "thin" despite having children and getting older?

She is thin and has always been. It wasn't hard for her to lose weight after having a baby.

She's sleeping with one of the trainers.

I'm guessing the wife is the one who wrote this and is trying to gauge whether she's fitness obsessed or not.

Close. I think it’s a lazy wife who is asking us to judge her superfit neighbor and her choices.

PP here and yes, I agree this sounds more likely.

She needs to lift weights instead of relying on cardio.

It doesn't sound too excessive to me. Sounds like she's bored and trying to create a life outside sahm.
