I’m completely different. It seems like a lifetime ago. I was so naive and trusting then. I remember once, the local police brought drug sniffing dogs to our school to inspect the lockers and I thought it was just a drill because I “knew” nobody would actually have drugs. I was also completely taken advantage of by a teacher who preyed on my kind, trusting nature and lured me into a sexual abuse situation. He told me he was in love with me and I totally believed him.

I often wish I could travel back in time and warn my high school self to be a little more aware and cynical, and to stand up for myself a lot more.

Much for outgoing and confident. Dress better. Much less negative because I like myself more. Comfortable with and most of the time believe in my attractiveness to men. Still just as immature and silly though with things like potty humor which never gets old.

I even found a local newspaper quote from a middle school mock election Ross Perot/Bill Clinton where I said, "People just vote how their parents do."
Yup, still a cynic. Still have a ton of circles of friends, most get along, some can't believe I have those other friends. Same interests.

One thing - I stick up for myself and others more. since starting college. I'm not talking community activist, I talking speaking my mind and wants to people, teachers, work, boyfriends, etc.

Not much. I'm still very anxious. I now just have a 9 to 5.

Very different. I was a stoner, cut class, big partier with decent grades but nothing amazing. Went to a state school. I found college pretty easy and really responded well to getting good grades. I actually applied myself and took the lsat. Did very well and went to a good law school. Did the whole big law thing for a few years and then became a lobbyist for the industry I specialized in. I’m very pleased career wise. Life is hard in other ways. My DH has not stepped up like I would have thought with parenting. And having little kids is hard. People from high school seem pretty shocked how I ended up whenever I run into someone. I get kind of insulted by how surprised they are, honestly.

I was an immature idiot who treated people poorly in high school.

That person is still in there, but is indulged less frequently.

In high school, which was in the late 90s in a rural VA county, I knew I was a lesbian and was petrified for anyone to find out. I met a girl on the internet who totally catfished me before catfishing was even a thing. She strung me along for a couple of years and to this day, I'm not sure what was a lie (probably most of it) and what was the truth. I told my parents I was bisexual so that I could convince them, and myself, that I would one day marry a man, have children, and have a "normal" life they could be proud of.


I went off to college and majored in theater arts. Many will roll their eyes, but it was the best decision I ever made. I found my people, I found a way to connect with the world and others. I went on to get a masters in education, and now I teach English and drama. I married a woman I met in college, and we have two beautiful children together. I am 100% out at work; my colleagues and students all know that I'm gay, married to a woman, with two kids. I never thought I'd have this life.

I've become more involved insecure.
