PP of ^^ the Limited also has ventilated (cooling) front seats - I had those in a rental last summer and have added it to the list of XLE regrets

Surprised no one mentioned Toyota Highlander. Ours seats 8, and it is truly seating for 3 in that third row. We did not get the captain's chairs for the middle row. Pretty easy to get into the back when needed. Lots of legroom in middle row (DH is 6'4" and there had always been complaints on our previous car when someone had to sit behind him. The middle row seats slide back and forth (and recline). We have the XLE and AWD. I do regret not insisting on the extra $$ for the Limited which has memory seat positions (I am nowhere near 6'4"!), heated middle row and heated steering wheel. There are other features but the power memory seat position is key for us. The Limited seems to have more immediate availability in captains' chairs for the middle, but you can get the bench seating so you can carry 6 in the middle and rear rows.

I love my Sequoia (I am on my second one) and also have three kids (very tall ones) and a large dog, plus lots of sports equipment and many carpools. I LOATHE minivans -- they make me carsick. The 3rd row of the Sequoia is roomy and even my over 6 foot DS can sit back there comfortably.
The Pilot was too small for my tall children. The back row of the Mercedes was too hard to get down. Sequoia has it all (except good gas mileage) and is easier to drive and park than a Suburban.

Chevy and Buick also has versions of the Acadia. They are all similar. Very popular Mom SUV in the nicer parts of town.
Not in the DC suburbs they aren’t. American cars are junk.

What about the Toyota Sequia? It has 3 rows and AWD.
I also agree to at least test drive a mini van. They are great for seating lots of kids.

I actually drive a rear wheel drive Cadillac with performance tires in the snow. I find it ironic my neighbors all have SUVs in their garage on snow days when they work from home. But I grew up driving junk rear wheel drive cars to school in snow storms.
They cancel school at the sign of a snowflake so no need at all for an SUV South of Baltimore.
But they need to "sit high" in a big expensive SUV to complete their look:

Haha! My dad refused to give up driving SUVs in the 80s and 90s even though he had 3 kids. He drove a White Ford Bronco until 1995--the year of the OJ trial. That year, he traded it in for a Town and Country.

My wife has the GMC Acadia and she loves it, the car has a third row and actually gets good MPG. She was a Japanese car person. But went on a mad love affair with an American SUV
