Being a hero and being a dead body in morgue is one mistake away

that's absurd. yes, one has to learn when to walk away. but that doesn't mean you never try to help anyone or stop a bad thing that's happening.

And this was one he should’ve walked away

Obviously not. The schmuck gave up his phone and let his pictures be deleted. I assume OP's son properly sized up the situation. JFC we used to send kids 2 years older than him to literally fight wars. Kids are not that stupid.

You have kids?

You are missing the point. No one is saying you shouldn’t help out people in distress. This wasnt the one.

Sorry, I was trying to link to the news story of the two men stabbed to death on a train in Portland OR a few years back when the came to the aid of a young woman who was the victim of a man who was going on an anti Muslim rant.

Your son clearly is unaware of the danger he could have faced. My close friend is a NYC cop and he could tell you stories that could curl your hair about late night subway issues. That guy could have handed over his phone and then attacked your son claiming he stole it. I’d be very worried your son feels he’s invincible and needs better street smarts.

boy does DCUM lack a backbone and sense of moral imagination. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

No. I would think he was kinda being a meathead.

He's defending vulnerable people (the girls who are being made into middle-age p*rn fodder). While yes, I would worry like crazy if I had a brave kid like that, I would never try to convince him that MYOB is the moral and ethical way to go about things. My guess is that he could tell that the creepy schmuck wasn't going to put up a fight.

I would talk to a local police officer., tell him the story and ask him or her to talk to your DS. It worked out for you DS, but could have ended very differently.
