I actually wanted to do jury duty, but the one time I was called I had to ask to not go because I had a baby at home. They’ll let you out of it.

Long time ago I was selected for grand jury duty (once a week for 6 months) and I had to miss 4 of the weeks due to work travel. They have enough grand jurors to hear the cases brought each time, but the clerks were so helpful in that usual DC kind of way.
DC is a strange place.
This exact travel scenario happened to me. Trial went long, they were annoyed even though I had told them during selection, and replaced me with the alternate. Which was kind of disappointing for me, because after sitting through a trial where the guy was outrageously guilty of a federal crime, I wanted to finally be able to talk about it with my fellow jurors!!

I did this, too. Luckily I was 23 at the time and low in the totem poll of my company so I wasn’t missed. It was interesting but took an emotional toll.
