OP - just say no and honestly I would not worry about hurt feelings. When someone keeps pushing and pushing for someone to accept an "offer", its no longer well meaning. They are being pushy and rude.

I have relatives who do this. They want us to use their rental in an entirely different location instead of the resort that we like. Its a constant but why wouldn't you stay here, its a fraction of the cost or its free. I have relatives who we need to never tell that we are going on vacation to a particular location because they will inject that we should all go together but then stay somewhere else. We don't want to stay there or spend our vacation with them.

wtf OP, it is a generous offer, whether you like the timeshare or not. you need to recognize that. if they rented it out on VRBO, it could be thousands of dollars (I know, having recently rented a stranger's timeshare). be polite and say no thank you.

OP, unless you talked your parents into buying the timeshare I don't think you have any obligation to stay there. As another PP mentioned, I think a lot of people buy them thinking they'll go more often and then look for family to stay to make it feel more like they're getting their money's worth.

OP stated very clearly why their family prefers to stay at the resort rather than the time share - tell your parents what you've said here about how much you love that you can relax from the moment you step out of the airport with the all-inclusive resort you prefer. You're allowed to like something different than your parents!

I don't think you understand how timeshares work - perhaps you should ask clarifying questions before you resort to name calling. Most timeshares are part of a large network with locations in every major vacation area around the world. People may buy a particular location but swap it for other locations every year. OP said that her parent's chain happens to have a location near where she vacations - this is not like her parents owning a house or condo in one fixed location that she vacations near. OP could vacation any resort type place in the world and her parents would likely have a timeshare site there.

I think most of the people who own timeshares get sick of having to go to them regularly and/or compete to exchange. Plus they get to pay the annual fees they can't even control every year regardless. That's why there are businesses popping up to help people get rid of them. Now with VRBO and AirBNB, it makes less sense to have one. So if a relative offers one, it's partly to justify having bought it in the first place. And some relatives (not OP's) would actually expect you to pay them for it.
