I think this is not yet proven.

The good food/bad food thing is a first world suburban myth.
Most dog foods are just fine. They all should have the requisite amino acids and nutrition. Purina, Hills, Iams, are fine. Sometimes a company will recall due to an abundance of caution. A lot of foods were recalled due to a possible overage of Vit d. and it was a lot of brands.
The raw stuff is recalled ALL THE TIME.
The boutique brands also are recalled a lot.
Purina, the cheap crap, is not dangerous.

Don't buy food produced in China. Or toys. Or treats. They have no or little oversight. Melamine in dog food killed dogs. It also killed human Chinese babies.

They don't need to eat raw because they are really wolves. They are not wolves.
They don't need to eat grain free- also a myth. Most allergies are environmental. Some might have a specific allergy, but it is rare.
The grain free panic was about a lack of taurine, not the grain free ingredients.

Costco's Kirkland dog food is pretty decent.

Fromm's, Taste of the Wild, Origen, Acana, Solid Gold, Honest Kitchen to name a few.

Some of these had recalls too.

Yup, they have.

Then there's the used-to-be-wonderful Blue Buffalo. If you were feeding anything but that you were probably killing your dog, according to some.

Ditto for Iams prescription diet junk.

It was one of the few my dog could tolerate.

My current dog eats kangaroo food.

Visit an independent pet store like Bark or Whole Pet Central. They have a great range of highl quality foods: kibble, canned, freeze dried and raw.

Some of these brands listed are also grain-free so are you saying grain-free is ok as long as it’s from one of these companies?

I find it hard to believe that with all of the treats and stuff that falls on the floor that gets eaten by the dog, that any dog has a truly ‘grain free’ diet.

Most vets know surprisingly little about nutrition. Ours thinks Hills is a great food. Do your own research.

They get a kick back too from selling that stuff, don’t they? Sure, maybe they need it - but all of that prescription food is just trash.

Honest Kitchen is great if your budget allows and if your dog will eat it.

We have been feeding TOTW, but like Acana and Origen, it has been linked (mechanism unknown) to DCM.
