Here's the thing--Catholic school is by far the cheapest in Alexandria. Bishop Ireton is about half the price of SSAS/ACDS/Browne/Burgundy if you are a Catholic, and it's still only about 60% of the price if you are not Catholic. And the second and third child discounts at BI (like msot Catholic schools, since, well, Catholics tend to have multiple kids) are massive--like 25% off for the second and 50% off for any other kids.

Wow, just wow? Thanks for your uninformed & ignorant post. My kids take one of those buses but don’t wake up much before yours. They don’t wait in the cold bc the bus gets to the stop 15 mins early. They adore the bus ride bc it’s either a time to review what they need for the day or hang out with friends, particularly those in different grades. My youngest thinks it’s essentially a play date. They don’t want to ride with us, they love the bus ride. The morning trip is quick bc it’s before rush hour. The afternoon one can be 30 mins but they often do a chunk of homework. I’m not being defensive, just think you shouldn’t judge without knowing how the buses work. Plus, we did look hard at all of the Alexandria options and, particularly for high school, couldn’t find anything comparable.

I know how the buses work, looked at all those schools myself and you have to be at the stop no later than 7:20 so no honey, your kids getting up way before mine, not by the “that much earlier” you think.

Wow, you seem to have a lot of anger. My kids wake up at 6:45, eat a hot breakfast & leave the house at 7:10 or 7:15. I guess they are just efficient in the am bc we don’t feel rushed or stressed. Sounds like they do wake up 15 mins before your kids do, but I’d hardly call that child abuse. Drop them at the bus which is 3 mins away & then enjoy not having to deal w/ a carpool line. Mins gives them plenty of time to get ready & eat. To each their own, but in case other Alexandria families are considering private’s outbof Alexandria, I wanted to clarify that it’s hardly a hardship or stressful morning and, unless your child does swimming or hockey or something that requires am practice, there would be no reason to wake up as early as PP claims. Obviously different things work best for different families, but we’re quite happy with our routine.

I never said the schools in Alexandria are better, where did I say that? I just don’t believe subjecting children to a long ass stressful DC commute is necessary for a marginally better educational experience. I’m not from DC and went to an elite private myself so I know aside from Sidwell no school here can compete with what’s out there. I’m just not going to kill myself and my kids commuting to school. Good luck with your commutes! I’ll enjoy my stress free life.

Mine go to school in Alexandria too, but I’m not gonna pretend the schools are as good as many Dc schools. They are not. The warm breakfast isn’t going to change that
