I agree there will be some burn it to the ground proponents, but they should be ignored. Two neighborhood schools, leave the murals, leave the lab. Everyone will survive and 5 years later no one will remember it was a thing.

In August they just wanted Key/ASFS to shut up so they could do S Arlington. Would it have been better to just announce that zone was delayed because immersion was going to move to a location TBD? Maybe yes.

Poor Murphy, couldn't quite admit that they totally acted like idiots in August when the announced the swap. Remember, it was HIS decision. Had nothing to do with boundaries, SB didn't have to be involved, etc. But now they need another 8 months (because the first 12 months weren't enough) to engage the community. And they have to decide by December so it can be part of the 2020 BOUNDARY process.

I have been in that lab. No idea how it could be two classrooms... and it’s location right at front office is not ideal. What a weird proposition. Maybe it could make a music room or something?

No. Other elementary schools do not have science rooms. Other elementary schools have multiple trailers and special ED and ESL pull pull-outs happening in hallways, closets and stairwells.

I don't think we'd be undergoing a process to figure out where to put immersion if staying put was an option

Or undergo an 8 month (further) process just to swap ASFS/Key. Murphy and APS came out pretty strong in August that they studied the swap, it made sense, it was a done deal. To say now that they need to go back and "reevaluate" and look at other schools pretty much demonstrates that they jumped the gun and all their analyzes and memos couldn't hold up to scrutiny once released. They are not going to spend almost another year to just say, yep, we were right in August 2018!

Guess they didn't read all the prior threads with the one poster who kept calling everyone stupid and to stop whining about swap because it was what was best for everyone.

Clearly Key also needs to be a neighborhood school. I can't believe APS would go through all this just to leave immersion at Key. That area needs more neighborhood seats.

The new elementary projections are 1,000 higher than last year's projection. This is based on births to Arlington parents and future affordable housing developments and will be felt around 2022.

Oh gee, you mean they have to figure out where to put at least 1,000 more kids right after they do boundaries in 2021? Hmmmm, sounds like they may need two neighborhood schools along the Orange Line.
