The uber guy is impacted by the shutdown, the hair dresser is impacted by the shutdown, the servers in the food industry are impacted by the shut down. That is on top pf the hundreds of thousands of federal workers that are impacted. I would not sell now if you have a choice. Between there being more people selling their belongings and fewer buyers, seems like a poor plan.

Lots of people are impacted by the shutdown. The car repair place I’ve been going for years is a ghost town. They told me their business is way off this month. My ex just scored an insane deal on a new car from a dealer. They told him nothing was selling. It’s not just the furloughed feds who are impacted by this.

Big

Yes, I know that. But a lot of people are impacted. Restaurants, dog walkers, nannies, contractors, WMATA employees are being furloughed.

Why? people are selling their possessions to pay the rent. my spouse is a furloughed fed, and we're planning on selling our baby stuff (which we would normally donate).

If you need to sell baby gear to pay the rent, then you need to consider your overall spending/savings in less you are a low income fed, which most aren't. We always sold our gear except a few things we gave to friends. I'd rather have the money to buy new things.

How can you be so sure that "most" are not affected by the shutdown? Did you take a poll?

I would hazard a guess and say that most are affected. Either directly or indirectly. Feds, contractors, and business owners specifically.

It is one third of one percent of the population.

That's just the percent who are furloughed federal workers. There are many more people than that who are affected, though--contractors, small businesses, etc. Our state, and many others, will stop food stamps at the end of January if there's no new funding, and that will affect million of families.

Now, whether any of those people were planning to buy OP's car, or sell another like it when they wouldn't otherwise, is another question. Probably not, and I wouldn't worry about it unless OP is in an area of the DMV with a higher concentration of feds than most.

But they might delay buying a new one right now, which I believe is OP's worry.

OP, if you're in the DMV, then yes, I'd wait if you can. If not, it probably won't make much difference. You can always try listing it and see what you get.

No OP said they thought a lot of people would be selling them, maybe flooding the market. It’s right there, 7 posts up.
